Jerez de la Frontera

Last Sunday, because the sun was out after many days of rain, we drove up to Jerez de la Frontera (simply Jerez or "Heresth" with that perfect local lisp). It's a quick trip, only about 20 minutes from El Puerto. We've been many times, since it's a larger town and has more to offer, but usually we're hitting up the mall or Ikea. And I'm guessing you're not really interested in pictures of any of that...

Of course, we've gone for dinner before and some special events - feria, a flamenco show, we even went there for New Year's Eve. But on Sunday we just walked around, enjoying the weather and the character that Jerez has to offer.

The main plaza, complete with adorable old Spanish man.

Of course, there's a cathedral.

Ferry to Cadiz

On Saturday, we took the ferry from Puerto to Cadiz. Cadiz is close (we can see it across the bay from our bedroom balcony!) and we've been many times by car (we went just a couple weekends ago to see the Tall Ships). But we had heard the ferry was fast, cheap, and easy (just how we like it...?) so we decided to give it a try.

It was a gorgeous (and very hot) day.

Cadiz is (according to the Spanish) the oldest, continuously inhabited European city. Whether or not that is true doesn't really matter, Cadiz is a beautiful and ancient city, full of character and winding streets.

Flashback Friday: Barcelona

Hola and feliz Friday! We've had a full week - Graham has been busy with work, grad school courses, and golf. Meghann had her first horseback riding lesson, has been volunteering at the animal shelter, and taking care of a foster dog with a broken leg that is on the mend. And we've been filling any spare gaps with watching the Olympics (even if that means lots of badminton, archery, and table tennis, thanks to the fact that we're watching East Coast television coverage).

So, we don't have another blog post put together for this week. But since we're such great procrastinators bloggers, we do have some pictures from our trip to Barcelona way back in November that we'll share with you. Let's call it Flashback Friday and we might make a habit of it, because we love alliteration (almost as much as we love procrastination).
